This is the name given to the phase at the end of a race when the individual riders of a given team ride in formation and protect their top rider from the wind so that the rider concerned can save his strength and is in an optimum position for the final sprint. Moreover, the general speed is kept as high as possible to prevent late attacks from individual riders from the speeding pack or to nip such attacks in the bud.
