Or l’Autobus or Gruppeto, as the Germans, French and Italians call the group of riders who are unable to or want to keep up with the leaders on a difficult mountain stage and thus form a larger group. This group generally includes an experienced so-called “bus driver”, who dictates the speed the group must ride at in order to reach the finishing line within the time allotted by the organiser. A further advantage of the group formation is that the race management is unlikely to disqualify a large group of riders from the race and probably let them get away with exceeding the specified time limit
