 The year’s first Grand Tour. Apart from the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana the three weeks’ tour through Italy is one of the most important stage races in professional cycling. The Giro d’Italia is carried out since 1909. The overall leader receives the Maglia rosa, the pink jersey. The colour refers to the organiser of the race, the Gazetta dello Sport, which is printed on pink paper.
