The five most important classical one-day races, Milan – Sanremo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris – Roubaix, Liège – Bastogne – Liege and Giro di Lombardia, are also called the monuments of cycling. Al races were introduced at the turn of the century between 1892 and 1912. Their special characteristic is their extreme length of more than 250 kilometers.
