The Flanders Tour or The Ronde van Vlaanderen annually takes place at the beginning of April. The race, which is also called Vlaanderens Mooiste, Flanders’s Most Beautiful, was carried out in 1912 for the first time. The course leads the riders from Bruges through Belgiums Flemish part over the Ardennes region to Meerbeke. The first part of the course is even, the second very hilly and often with steep climbs. Keywords of the Ronde van Vlaanderen are „helligen“, the small but very steep climbs, and „kasseien“ – cobblestone. For most of the climbs lead the riders over cobbled pavement. Another term is the „wall of Geraardsbergen“, a steep climb on the race’s final 20 kilometers. This is where the breaks of the deciding groups often take place.
