Dear Team MILRAM fans,

to be honest, I was in a better condition last week in Austria. Yesterday when I was second my legs weren’t that good. Maybe that was because of the heat, many riders weren’t feeling that well. But you can’t say anything against a second rank. I would have liked to win, but with five riders in the front T-Mobile was really strong. I would have liked to win for my team, because Niki, Rigotto and Siedler worked so well for me. But on the other hand what matters is to be on the podium again.

Today there were a lot of attacks and then a group with the favourites, because there’s no team that’s controling the race. Everything’s very open, and the one who wins the time trial tomorrow probably wins the race as well. Today, everything worked out fine. With Niki, Sebastian Siedler and me, three riders were in the front. I felt great and wanted to win. During the race we went for the sprint classifications as well and I got a few seconds. I said to myself, you never know what it might be good for. Now I got the sprinter’s jersey as well, not just the yellow one. The finale was quite hectic and I lost some seconds in the struggle. A pity, because I liked the course with it’s slight ascent and the left turns. I just would have liked to give the team something back for their great work with a win.

But the yellow jersey’s great as well. Unfortunately, tomorrow’s the time trial, and that’s not really my strength. So I probably won’t be able to defend it. Especially because there are some real time trial specialists like Bobby julich or the Astana riders. But I’m not worrying, we’ll see what happens. The tour’s really nice. The atmosphere’s good, and there are a lot of German teams where I know the riders. I also know a lot of people standing at the roadside. Despite all these catastrophes that are happening at the moment the people are cheering at us, that’s great. Now and then there are some boohs if they see an Astana-rider. But honestly you’ve got to say, what Winokorow has done is not their fault... However, most people are here because of the sport, and that’s good to see.

I also got contact to our Tour-riders. We regularly write sms. Unfortunately I can’t be there this year, but I keep my fingers crossed for the guys, and I’m not jealous. Just a little sad because I was injured and back in condition too late. I’m happy that the guys are doing so well, they really did a great performance. Especially in the first week when there was one of us in the front all the time. And except from the mountains you always see MILRAM, that’s great.

Now I hope to get back to the normal programme. I want to do the Night of Hannover, the Hainleite and Bochum. Then, my goals are the Deutschland-Tour and Hamburg, which was really great last year. My absolute highlight is the Vuelta in September, I’m really looking forward to that. Maybe Petacchi will be back then as well. And who knows, maybe I can qualify for the World Championships.

Kind regards from Saxony,

Björn
