Pssst! The latest insider news: Niki Terpstra about the Delta Profronde, his first half year at Team MILRAM and his plans for the coming time.
15/06/2024
Dear Team MILRAM fans,
I just came home from training, preparing for the Delta Profronde tomorrow. I was at home between Veenendaal – Veenendaal on Wednesday and the Delta Profronde, the races are just about an hour or two away from where I live. This afternoon I’m going to the team hotel then, to get a massage and to get into the mood for the race with the team.
The Delta Profronde will be a tough race tomorrow, especially because there is always a lot of wind. But I hope to do a good race. I hope I can help the team win or the team can help me. We’ll see if we all ride for Petacchi, or if he helps me or another rider of us. It would be great if one of us was successful, that’s the main thing. I already rode the Delta four times, so I know the course a little. I think that’s quite good and I hope that I will be able to finish in front, among the first ten or maybe even win. That would be great.
I have already been at Team MILRAM for half a year now. It is my first season in a professional team, and it was pretty tough at the beginning. I first had to adjust to the level, which is very high. But I’m about to get used to everything and to get settled in. With the other riders I get along well, they are all very nice. At the beginning it was a bit difficult, because they are all foreigners, mainly Germans and Italians. So it wasn’t so easy with the language, especially with the Italians. But it’s ok with English, and I’m also learning a bit of Italian. But that’s difficult of course and it takes a lot of time, but I want to learn more. In a professional team everything is quite different to what I knew before. The greatest difference is that everything is arranged better. The only thing I have to do is to ride a good race, the rest does the team. Before, I had to clean my bike myself, for example, which is done for me now. But on the other hand, the team expects more from me, of couse.
My next important races after the Delta Profronde on Saturday are the team time trial in Eindhoven on 24th June and the Dutch National Championships on the first of July. I hope I can do a good performance there to prove that I can ride a big stage race. My goal is the Vuelta in September. So keep your fingers crossed for me and the team.
See you,
Niki
