Dear Team MILRAM fans,

I had the week after the Bayern-Rundfahrt off and finally was able to spend some time with my wife and our daughter Pia. I regenerated, did some relaxed training, and once rode into the Austian mountains to prepare for the Dauphiné next week. I have pretty much respect for the mountains there. But the week was quite short altogether, and now it’s time again to pack for the next race. With the baby it’s a little exhausting as well, but absolutely positively. You don’t really realize it. You get up at five a.m. to feed her and don’t think about it at all. And a baby is quite a motivation as well.

On the first stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt my wife and Pia visited me, which is quite a special feeling. Altogether, the Bayer-Rundfahrt worked out quite well for me and the whole team. When I won on the last stage I didn’t really realise it. We did a good race and rode at a high speed. As a track rider I’m able to accelerate again from a high speed, and then it becomes difficult for the others to pass. What is most important is that one of our team won, but of course I’m happy. It was my first win for MILRAM, and I think I can build on that. In the overall classification I also did quite well, I finally came on rank six. This was especially due to the time trial. I quite like time trials, but rather the shorter ones. But in spite of the long distance I was very motivated and finally finished tenth. With only seconds between the first ranks and some time credits I finally came on quite a good overall rank.

There was quite a lot of media present at the Bayern-Rundfahrt, which I think was very good. I was also very happy that Erik was celebrated that much. With the fans and the local press you had the feeling that everybody gave credit to him for his avowal. But what was a pity in my opinion was that the Bayrischer Rundfunk only broadcasted little parts of the race due to protest against doping. This only punished the viewers.

Tomorrow morning I’m going to France for the Dauphiné. My plane starts in Munich. In the course of the day, the rest of the Team will arrive there as well. We always start very early for tours in order to be able to do a training with the whole team before the race starts. I partly know the tour from last year, and had a look at the other stages on the website of the race. It’s going to be a very hard tour. Many favorites for the Tour de France will be there, who will all be in a very good condition already. And someone like me, who isn’t a specialist for high mountains, has to suffer... I already talked to our sport director about my duties. On the first two stages, which are quite flat and probably will end with a bunch sprint, we are to go for the results. In the high mountains, then, I’ll be pretty much out of duty for I’ll probably have enough to do with myself. But of course I’ll help our mountain specialists like Grivko and Astarloa into the mountain.

What comes after that is still a big question at the moment. My first goal is to ride a good Dauphiné. And if I achieved that I maybe think about thinking about the Tour de France. But actually I always think from race to race, I’m not a big speculator. So keep your fingers crossed for me and the team that we’ll do well at the Dauphiné Libéré.

Sebastian
