Pssst! Insider News
12/04/2024
Dear MILRAM Team Fans,
The first few months of the season are behind us, and there is much to report. Our initial trials in the form of Milan – San Remo and the Belgian spring classics have been mastered successfully. Our domestic races are about to start and the Tour de France is only a few months away.
The MILRAM Team has experienced a great deal in the past weeks and months. At the Milan – San Remo event, we were able to demonstrate that our “New Way of Cycling” strategy with two fast sprinters works. I would say we had everything under control apart from the tactics employed by our competitors with the result that Quickstep stole first place from under our front wheel. As far as the two Belgian classics Tour of Flanders and Ghent – Wevelgem were concerned, things simply didn’t go our way this time, unfortunately. Despite the fact that the “Ronde” is one of my absolute favourites on the pro tour, we really had to fight hard. The external circumstances were very difficult, and almost all of us had to dismount on the Koppenberg because of the slippery cobbles. In the case of the one-day classic Ghent – Wevelgem, we worked very well together as a team, but it wasn’t quite enough for Alessandro, in the final analysis. However, the team is heading in the right direction, and we have already achieved a lot.
On 17th April and 1st May, I will be back riding on home territory. On the first occasion, the route is in and around Cologne, and the second event takes us into the Taunus hills and around Frankfurt’s Henninger Turm. I am particularly looking forward to the Henninger Turm event as I have happy memories of the 2005 race. This year will see the MILRAM Team up against strong opposition, not only in the form of the German professional teams Gerolsteiner and T-Mobile. Other top teams such as Davitamon-Lotto, CSC, Liquigas, Rabobank and Phonak will be hard to beat. The race is being held for the 45th time and is extremely popular among the riders themselves, not least because of the many spectators lining the route who provide us with motivation and enthusiastic support.
From May on, we will be preparing ourselves calmly for the biggest challenge of the season – the Tour de France. Our aim is to use the right strategy, new training units and balanced diets to optimise our chances of getting a good result. I have meanwhile learned that the quantity of training need not be expanded. I am focusing more on quality than on quantity. I have drawn up my training plan for the Tour de France with this in mind.
I hope we will get a chance to meet up at the races in Germany. Sincerely yours,
Erik
