Pssst! The latest insider news: Sebastian Schwager talks about his experiences at the Tour de Romandie
07/05/2024
Dear Team MILRAM fans,
yesterday I finished the Tour de Romandie and took the plane home via Rome right after the race. I arrived at home at 1 a.m. at night so that I’m still a little tired, but otherwise I’m feeling fine. The Tour de Romandie was a hard tour again. But a very beautiful one as well, which was well organised, too.
I’m quite satisfied with my performance. At the beginning I had a cold and didn’t know if I’d be able to do the whole tour. But I felt better from time to time and after three days the cold was gone and I could do whatever the team assigned to me. On the second stage, everything seemed to run very well first as we were riding in the fore for Mirco Lorenzetto. But then there was a crash, Mirco was hampered and finished ninth. We hoped for more first, but that’s cycling. For the biggest part of the team the Tour de Romandie was a preparation for the Giro d’Italia, so we didn’t go for the results only. But despite the cold and rainy weather the mood within the team was very good.
Before we could start the Tour de Romandie we had some problems at the Swiss border. Our lorry was overloaded and they didn’t want to let us cross the border. Fortunately we were there with another bus in which me and two other riders were just coming from Liège. So we all joined hands together and loaded the material from the lorry to the bus for two hours until we could continue.
I was really motivated for the Tour de Romandie. I rode the Basque-Tour before, and I didn’t expect to finish it first, for it is really a hard race. But I rode better from day to day, so that the sport direction was satisfied with my performance. This, of course, is very motivating. I think it’s the right way to try the one or other hard race, for as a young pro you should have seen everything at least once.
Now I’ve got a racing break of three weeks. The next one or two days I’ll make a real break, then I’m going to start with the preparation for the Tour of Bavaria. Before the tour starts I’m going to ride along the course of one stage together with Sebastian Siedler and some representatives of the press. My goals for the tour are to train well and to maintain the level of performance I worked for in the past weeks and to do a good race. Erik Zabel will be there as well, and we’ll give everything to get the chance to win the one or other stage. And for me personally it would be a highlight if I’d be able to be part of a top group for a stage.
So keep your fingers crossed for me and the whole team,
Sebi
