Pssst! The latest insieder news: After his injured shoulder has recovered Björn Schröder wants to attack again.

Dear Team MILRAM fans,

after the crash at the final stage of the Algarve-Tour, in which I injured my shoulder pretty badly, I’m feeling better again. It was really bad luck that day. Together with Marcel I rode at the front and somehow was pulled from the bike in the scramble before the final sprint. I was lucky that Marcel was there, he helped me immediately. After the crash I couldn’t do anything at first, and it took me a week to be able to exercise again.

Soon after I struggled through at Paris – Niece. It is important to keep at it, especially with regard to the Tour de France. After that I didn’t start at any race for some time, so I trained at home in order to stay in form despite the injury and to prepare for my next race. I met Enrico Poitschke quite often in order to exercise with him. It’s nicer than to ride on your own. Surely it was great to spend a longer time at home with my family and to see my son more often. With our full racing calendar this often isn’t possible for long. Last year for example I had 85 races, and then there are the travelling days and the training camps. So the days with the family are rare. Yet I exercised a lot during my time at home, for there is a hard schedule before me.

My next important races are the Vuelta al Pais Vasco and the classics in the Ardennes. I’ll start again this weekend. The priority in these races will be to ride for the team. But of course I’d like to be successful myself as well again. Last year, my programme was hard, and it’ll probably be a bit more this year. The Tour de France, which I rode for the first time last year, is especially important to me. I hope it’ll be just as good this year. I didn’t have one bad day and I had the optimum training. For the team, stage wins and the sprint jersey are in the foreground again this year, so I’ll work for that. It’s good to hear Ete saying it’s important that I’m there again. He always knows to honour our performance, and helping him to win is nearly as great as winning yourself.

This year I’ll do quite a lot of German races. The highlights this summer are the Deutschland Tour and the Cyclassics in Hamburg. Before that I’ll probably be starting at the Henniner Turm and at the Tour of Bavaria. In contrast to last year I also want to do some smaller races and learn to win again there. Maybe then I’ll be able to win one of the bigger races as well. Last year, I nearly almost did big races where I worked a lot for the team and less for my own success. And I want to try to qualify for the World Championships in Germany. These are a very special highlight. But it’s quite some time until then, so I’ll keep it at the back of my mind.

Before I continue my training and the preparation for the next races I’ll enjoy my day off today. It’s great spring weather and I’ll go riding for some two hours later on. Keep your fingers crossed that I’m well off in the next race so that I can give everything.
