Murcia: Luke Roberts still in Top Ten after time trial
Alhama de Murcia : 06/03/2010
MILRAM's Luke Roberts, who on Friday won the Queen stage of the Vuelta a Murcia (March 3-7 / UCI 2.1), is still in the Top Ten overall after the individual time trial. The stage win went to Czech Frantisek Rabon, while the Australian used a 16th place finish to go into Sunday's final stage in ninth place overall.
In the 22 km long ride against the clock, HTC-Columbia's Rabon outrode his rivals in a time of 25:10. Second best in the stage with start and finish in Alhama de Murcia was Russian Denis Menchov (Rabobank), 33 seconds down. Third was British Team Sky rider Bradley Wiggins (25.58 minutes / 48 seconds back). Roberts finished 1:42 minutes behind Rabon. His teammate Roger Kluge was 16th.
With his win in the time trial, the Czech also took the overall lead going into the final stage on Sunday. Second and third overall are Menchov and Wiggins, 38 and 53 seconds back, respectively. The best ranked rider from the MILRAM team is the previous day's winner Luke Roberts, who is ninth, at 1:42 minutes.
„I am very satisfied with Luke Roberts' placing in the Top Ten overall after the time trial. The race has many first-class riders. You only have to look at the start list,“ said Ralf Grabsch, who is Team MILRAM's Directeur Sportif. „We will attack again tomorrow. The riders are very motivated after our stage win on Friday. They know what it is all about.“
The 30th edition of the Vuelta a Murcia ends Sudnay with a 121 kilometer long stage starting in Redyser and ending in Murcia.
