Wim Stroetinga sprints to eighth place in Trofeo Palma

Wim Stroetinga sprinted to eighth place in the Trofeo Palma, the opener of the Mallorca Challenge /February 7-11/ UCI 1.1). The winner in Palma de Mallorca was Robbie McEwen (Katusha). The Australian won after 116 kilometer ahead of Spaniards Koldo Fernandez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) and Oscar Freire of Team Rabobank. At the same time, Team MILRAM finished eleventh in the team time trial which opened the ninth Tour of Qatar (February 7-12 / UCI 2.1). The win in Doha went to Team Sky ahead of Cervelo TestTeam and Garmin-Transitions.
“Our team worked very well in the hectic finale on the windy course,“ said Christian Henn, Team MILRAM's Directeur Sportif, after the race. „Win was brought into a good position and took his chance. We can be satisfied with a Top Ten placing. Tomorrow's course looks like it will be another sprint finish. Then our sprinters will have another chance for a win.“
The Mallorca Challenge consists of five one-day races carried on consecutive days. Every rider who is registered for the Challenge can take part in as many races as he wants. Riders who participate in all five races are listed in an unofficial overall ranking. Team MILRAM has previously ridden the race series on the vacation island in 2007 and 2009. Last year captain Gerald Ciolek brought in the first MILRAM win in 2009 in the fifth race of the Challenge. Markus Fothen was fifth in the unofficial overall ranking.
