Team MILRAM tenth in team time trial in Qatar

Doha: 07/02/2010

Team MILRAM placed tenth in the opening team time trial of the ninth Tour of Qatar (February 7-12/UCI 2.1). The German ProTour team needed 10:05 minutes to cover the 8.2 kilometer long course in Doha. The team around captain Gerald Ciolek had bad luck shortly after the start, when Niki Terpstra had a chain problem shortly after only a few meters. The problem brought his MILRAM teammates out of their rhythm and cost precious seconds in the end. The day's win went to Team Sky (9:41 minutes) ahead Garmin-Transition (9:49) and Team Saxo Bank (9:54). Leader in the overall ranking is Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky).

„We can't be satisfied today,“ said Ralf Grabsch, Team MILRAM's Directeur Sportif, after the stage. „Niki is our best man in time trials, and unfortunately his chain broke right after the start. We had realistic chances of place four to six, but you can't do anything about a mechanical problem. Our riders are in good form, so today was kind of a set-back for us. We won't let it get us down, but of course it is bothersome. It is very windy here at the moment, so tomorrow we will have to ride aggresively from the start and pay attention to seek our chance.“

The Emirate on the Persian Gulf is holding its Tour for the ninth time. The flat profile over six stages and about 700 km is perfect for the sprinters. On Sunday, February 7, things open with an 8.2 km long team time trial in the northern part of West Bay Lagoon in Qatar's capital, Doha. Last year, MILRAM sprinter Robert Förster rode into the Top Ten twice, finishing fifth in the fourth stage and second in the closing stage.
