Niki Terpstra leads Team MILRAM in West Flanders

Dortmund: 31/03/2009

This coming Tuesday, March 31, starts the KBC Driedaagse De Panne Koksijde (March 31-April 2/UCI category 2.HC), presenting Team MILRAM with the last big test before the Ronde van Vlaanderen. The race will take the riders of the German ProTour team, led by Niki Terpstra, over a total of 544 kilometers. It gives them all, especially the 24 year old Classics specialist, the chance to get in some final tuning for the Ronde van Vlaanderen next Sunday (April 5).

The Netherlander will be supported by Germans Robert Förster, Artur Gajek, Martin Müller, Dominiik Roels and Paul Voß, his Italian teammate Luca Barla and his fellow Dutchman Wim Stroetinga. The first stage leads the teams over 199 km from Middelkerke to Zottegem. The longest stage of 219 km is the second one, running from Zottegem to Koksijde (Oostduinkerke). On the third and last day is not only a stage with start and finish in De Panne (112 km), but also a closing time trial of 14 kms.

Last year's edition of the „Three Days of De Panne“, which has been held since 1977, saw an impressive performance by Niki Terpstra. The 24-year-old ended the race as fourth overall. The race's profile is a challenging one, with many small climb s and cobblestone passages. The previous 32 editions of the KBC-Driedaagse De Panne Koksijde have never had a German winner.
